FAQ
What is EXIF data?
EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) is a standard for storing metadata inside image files. It includes camera make and model, lens info, exposure settings (shutter speed, aperture, ISO), date and time taken, GPS coordinates, and many more technical details recorded at the moment of capture.
Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. The EXIF viewer processes your image entirely in your browser using the FileReader API and the exifr JavaScript library. Your image never leaves your device.
Which image formats contain EXIF data?
EXIF metadata is most commonly embedded in JPEG (.jpg/.jpeg) and TIFF files. Some PNG, HEIC, and WebP files also carry metadata. Screenshots and images re-exported through editors often have EXIF stripped out.
Why does my image show “No EXIF data found”?
EXIF can be stripped by social media platforms, image editors, or export settings. Screenshots never contain EXIF. Try with an original JPEG directly from your camera or smartphone.
